LG ThinQ smart features
The LG ThinQ app lets you communicate with the dryer using a smartphone. With the app, you can use several smart features, including downloaded cycles, settings, energy monitoring, remote control, push messages, and Smart Diagnosis.
What LG ThinQ can do
- Dryer Cycle: Download new and specialized cycles that are not included with the standard cycles on the dryer. After a cycle is downloaded, the dryer keeps that downloaded cycle until you download a new one.
- Settings: Change various options on the appliance and in the app. This feature is only available on some models.
- Energy Monitoring: Track how the dryer’s power consumption is affected by selected drying cycles and options. This feature is only available on some models.
- Remote Control: Start or monitor the dryer from the LG ThinQ app.
- Push Messages: Receive a message when a cycle is complete or when the appliance has problems.
- Smart Diagnosis: Get information that may help diagnose and solve issues based on the pattern of use.
Important note: only one downloaded cycle can be stored on the appliance at a time. Also, if you change your wireless router, Internet service provider, or password, you must delete the connected appliance from the LG ThinQ app and connect it again.
Install the app and connect the dryer
Models with QR code - Scan the QR code attached to the product using your smartphone camera or a QR code reader app.
Models without QR code 1. Search for and install the LG ThinQ app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. 2. Open the app and sign in with your existing account, or create an LG account and sign in. 3. In the LG ThinQ app, touch the add button and follow the app instructions to connect your LG appliance.
During Wi-Fi setup, you may be asked for a password for the LG network, not your home network. The password is the last 4 characters of the network name, repeated twice, with no spaces. For example, if the network name is LG_XXXX_8b92, the password is 8b928b92. The password is case sensitive, and the last 4 characters are unique to your appliance.
To confirm the Wi-Fi connection, check that the f icon on the control panel is lit.
Wi-Fi requirements and connection notes
- The appliance supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks only.
- If you are not sure about your network frequency, contact your Internet service provider or check your wireless router manual.
- LG ThinQ is not responsible for network connection problems or for faults, malfunctions, or errors caused by the network connection.
- If the dryer has trouble connecting to Wi-Fi, it may be too far from the router. A Wi-Fi repeater (range extender) may improve signal strength.
- The Wi-Fi connection may not connect or may be interrupted because of the home network environment.
- Network connection may not work properly depending on the Internet service provider.
- The surrounding wireless environment can slow down wireless network service.
- If the appliance cannot connect because of wireless signal transmission problems, unplug it and wait about a minute before trying again.
- If the firewall on your wireless router is enabled, disable the firewall or add an exception.
- The wireless network name (SSID) should use only English letters and numbers; do not use special characters.
- If the router security protocol is set to WEP, network setup may fail. Change the security protocol; WPA2 is recommended.
- Smartphone UI may vary depending on the mobile operating system and manufacturer.
Using Remote Start
Remote Start lets you control the dryer remotely with a smartphone and monitor the cycle to see how much time is left.
To use Remote Start 1. Put the laundry into the drum and close the dryer door. 2. Press the Power button. 3. Press and hold Remote Start for 3 seconds to enable the remote control function. 4. Start a cycle from the LG ThinQ app on your smartphone.
Important Remote Start notes - Once remote control is enabled, you can only start a cycle from the LG ThinQ app. - If the cycle is not started, the appliance will wait to start the cycle until it is turned off remotely from the app or remote control is disabled. - If the door is opened, you cannot start a cycle remotely.
To disable Remote Start manually - When the function is active, press and hold Remote Start for 3 seconds.
Downloaded cycles
You can download new and specialized cycles that are not included in the standard cycles on the dryer. Once the download is completed, the dryer keeps that cycle until a new one is downloaded. Only one downloaded cycle can be stored at a time.
