Extension drain hose note for U.S. users: If the drain hose already installed on the product is not long enough for your installation, use the dedicated LG front loader washing machine extension drain hose. The manual says these extension drain hoses can be purchased on the official LG website.

LG ThinQ App and Smart Features

The LG ThinQ app lets you communicate with the washer from a smartphone. It is used for remote control, cycle downloads, monitoring, alerts, settings, and Smart Diagnosis.

What the LG ThinQ app can do

If your washer has the wireless LAN module, the app can provide these features:

• Remote Start: control the washer remotely from the LG ThinQ app.
• Downloaded cycles: download new and specialized cycles that are not included on the washer.
• Tub Clean Coach: see how many cycles remain before it is time to run Tub Clean.
• Energy Monitoring: track the washer’s power use and see how it changes with selected wash cycles and options.
• Smart Diagnosis: get information to help diagnose and solve issues based on the washer’s pattern of use.
• Push Alerts: receive a push message when a cycle is complete or if the appliance has problems.
• Settings: change options on the appliance and in the app.

Before you connect

• The washer supports 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi networks only.
• The wireless network name (SSID) should use English letters and numbers only. Do not use special characters.
• If the router security protocol is set to WEP, network setup may fail. WPA2 is recommended.
• A weak signal, a router that is too far away, or some internet service provider or home network conditions may keep the Wi‑Fi from connecting properly.
• If the router firewall is enabled, disable it or add an exception.
• If the washer cannot connect because of wireless signal problems, unplug the appliance and wait about a minute before trying again.
• If the router, router password, or internet service provider changes, you must update the network information for the appliance in the LG ThinQ app under Device Cards > Settings > Change Network.

Install the app and connect the washer

If your model has a QR code

- Scan the QR code attached to the product using your smartphone camera or a QR code reader app.

If your model does not have a QR code

1. Search for and install the LG ThinQ app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. 2. Open the app and sign in with your existing account, or create an LG account and sign in. 3. Tap the add (+) button in the LG ThinQ app to connect the washer. 4. Follow the instructions in the app to finish setup.

Wi‑Fi setup note

During Wi‑Fi setup, you may be asked for a password for the LG network, not your home network. The password is the last 4 characters of the network name, repeated twice, with no spaces. For example, if the network name is LG_XXXX_8b92, the password is 8b928b92. The password is case sensitive, and the last 4 characters are unique to your appliance.

To verify the Wi‑Fi connection, check that the Wi‑Fi indicator on the control panel is lit.

Using Remote Start

Remote Start lets you start and monitor a cycle from the LG ThinQ app.

To use Remote Start

1. Put laundry in the drum and add detergent to the detergent dispenser drawer. - If desired, add bleach or fabric softener to the appropriate areas of the dispenser. 2. Press Power. 3. Press and hold Remote Start for 3 seconds to enable remote control. 4. Start a cycle from the LG ThinQ app on your smartphone.

Important limits for Remote Start

• Once Remote Start is enabled, you can only start a cycle from the LG ThinQ app.
• If a cycle is not started, the appliance will wait to start the cycle until it is turned off remotely from the app or Remote Start is disabled.
• If the door has been opened, you cannot start a cycle remotely.

To turn Remote Start off manually

- Press and hold Remote Start for 3 seconds again.

Downloaded cycles

You can download new and specialized cycles that are not included in the washer’s standard cycles. After a downloaded cycle is loaded, the washer keeps it until another cycle is downloaded.

- Only one downloaded cycle can be stored on the washer at a time.

Troubleshooting Wi‑Fi connection problems

The manual notes that connection problems may happen if the washer is too far from the router or if the wireless environment is poor. If the signal is weak, a Wi‑Fi repeater (range extender) may help improve signal strength.

Smart Diagnosis

Smart Diagnosis helps you diagnose and solve problems with the appliance.

Using LG ThinQ to diagnose issues

If you have a Wi‑Fi equipped appliance problem, it can send troubleshooting data to a smartphone using the LG ThinQ app.

• Open the LG ThinQ app and select Smart Diagnosis from the menu.
• Follow the instructions in the app.

Using audible diagnosis

Follow the app instructions for audible diagnosis, then:

1. Press Power to turn on the appliance. - Do not press any other buttons. 2. Place the mouthpiece of your smartphone close to the Power button. - Keep the mouthpiece within 10 mm. 3. Press and hold Temp. for 3 seconds, or until the audible tones start. 4. Keep the smartphone in place until data transfer is complete. - Do not move the smartphone while tones are being transmitted. - The time remaining for data transfer is shown. 5. After data transfer is complete, the diagnosis appears in the app.

Notes about app and service availability

• LG ThinQ is not responsible for network connection problems or failures caused by network connection issues.
• The app and its features may change without notice.
• Smart Diagnosis service may not work because of outside factors such as Wi‑Fi unavailability, Wi‑Fi disconnection, local app store policy, or app unavailability.
• The feature may look different depending on where you are located.
