Limited Warranty: dispute resolution and Canada warranty terms
This section explains how disputes are handled and, for Canada, what the limited warranty covers and does not cover.
If you want to start arbitration in the U.S. Before beginning an arbitration proceeding, you must first send LG written notice at least 30 days in advance. Mail the notice to:

Your notice must include: - your name - your address - your telephone number - the product involved - a description of the claim - the relief you are seeking
LG and you are expected to try in good faith to resolve the claim during this 30-day period. If the dispute is not resolved, either party may file for arbitration.
Binding arbitration and class action waiver If the dispute is not resolved after the notice period, claims must be resolved by binding arbitration on an individual basis, unless you opt out as described below. The warranty says disputes between you and LG cannot be combined with disputes involving other people’s products or claims. It also says disputes may not proceed as a class or representative action.
Either party may bring an individual action in small claims court instead of arbitration, but not as a class or representative case.
Arbitration rules Either you or LG can start arbitration by making a written demand. Arbitration is handled by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under the AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules in effect when arbitration begins, along with the procedures in this warranty section. The AAA Rules are available at www.adr.org/consumer.
You must send a copy of your written demand for arbitration, and a copy of this provision, to the AAA in the manner required by the AAA Rules. You must also send a copy to LG at the address above.
If there is a conflict between the AAA Rules and this warranty section, this warranty section controls. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this arbitration provision. The arbitrator’s award may be entered in any court with proper jurisdiction. The arbitrator decides all issues except the scope and enforceability of the arbitration provision and whether the dispute can be arbitrated; those issues are decided by a court.
Governing law The law of the state where you live governs this Limited Warranty and any disputes, except where federal law controls or conflicts.
Fees and costs in arbitration You do not have to pay a fee to begin arbitration. When LG receives your written demand, LG will promptly pay all arbitration filing fees to the AAA unless you are seeking more than $25,000 in damages. If so, fee payment is handled under the AAA Rules.
Except where otherwise stated, LG will pay AAA filing, administration, and arbitrator fees for arbitrations started according to the AAA Rules and this provision.
If you win arbitration, LG will pay your reasonable attorneys’ fees and expenses, considering factors such as the purchase amount and claim amount. If the law allows reasonable attorneys’ fees and expenses, the arbitrator may award them to the same extent a court could.
If the arbitrator decides your claim or the relief you requested is frivolous or brought for an improper purpose, fee payment follows the AAA Rules, and you agree to reimburse LG for amounts LG already paid that would otherwise be your responsibility. If LG wins, LG generally waives any right to seek attorneys’ fees and expenses from you.
Hearings and location If your claim is for $25,000 or less, you may choose arbitration based only on documents, by telephone, or by an in-person hearing, as allowed by the AAA Rules. If your claim exceeds $25,000, the AAA Rules decide whether there will be a hearing.
Any in-person hearing will be held in the federal judicial district where you live, unless both sides agree to another location or to a telephonic arbitration.
Opting out of arbitration You may opt out of this dispute resolution procedure. If you do, neither side can require the other to use arbitration.
To opt out, you must notify LG within 30 calendar days from the date of the first consumer purchaser’s purchase of the product. You may opt out only by: - emailing optout@lge.com with the subject line: “Arbitration Opt Out”, or - calling 1-800-980-2973
Your opt-out notice must include: - your name and address - the purchase date - the product model name or model number - the serial number
The serial number can be found on the product or online at https://www.lg.com/us/support by clicking “How do I find my model number?”
No other form of notice works to opt out. Opting out does not change your Limited Warranty coverage. If you keep the product and do not opt out, you accept the arbitration terms.
Canada: arbitration notice For Canada, the warranty says it contains an arbitration provision that requires disputes to be resolved by binding arbitration instead of court, unless provincial or territorial law does not allow it, or unless you opt out in jurisdictions where that option applies. It also says this arbitration provision does not apply to consumers in Ontario, British Columbia, or Québec. Class actions and jury trials are not allowed in arbitration.
Canada: warranty coverage If the washer fails because of a defect in materials or workmanship during normal and proper use, LG Electronics Canada, Inc. (LGECI) will, at its option, repair, replace, or provide a prorated remedy after receiving proof of the original retail purchase.
This warranty is only for the original retail purchaser and only for a product distributed, purchased from an authorized retailer, and used in Canada, as determined by LGECI.
Warranty periods in Canada If the original purchase date cannot be verified, the warranty starts 60 days from the date of manufacture.
- Washer: 1 year from the original retail purchase date — parts and labor for internal/functional parts only
- Stainless steel drum: 3 years from the original retail purchase date — parts only; consumer pays labor
- Direct drive motor (stator or rotor): 10 years from the original retail purchase date — part only; consumer pays labor
Replacement products and parts are covered for the remaining original warranty period or 90 days, whichever is greater. Replacement products and parts may be new, reconditioned, refurbished, or factory remanufactured, at LGECI’s sole discretion.
You must provide proof of original retail purchase showing the model and purchase date to receive warranty service.
What the Canada warranty does not cover This Limited Warranty does not cover: - service trips to deliver, pick up, install, or teach product operation; correct wiring or plumbing; or correct unauthorized repairs or installations - damage or failure during power failures or interrupted/inadequate electrical service - damage or failure caused by leaky or broken water pipes, frozen pipes, restricted drain lines, or inadequate/interrupted water or air supply - damage or failure from corrosive atmospheres or from use contrary to the owner’s manual - damage or failure caused by accidents, pests, lightning, wind, fire, floods, acts of God, or other causes beyond LGECI’s or the manufacturer’s control - damage or failure caused by misuse, abuse, improper installation, repair, or maintenance; improper repair includes unauthorized parts, and improper installation or maintenance includes anything contrary to the owner’s manual - damage or failure from unauthorized modification, using the product for anything other than its intended household purpose, or water leakage due to improper installation - damage or failure from incorrect electrical current, voltage, or plumbing codes - damage or failure from use other than normal household use, including commercial or industrial use, unless otherwise stated in the owner’s manual - damage or failure caused by accessories, components, or cleaning products that are not approved/authorized by LGECI - transportation and handling damage, including scratches, dents, chips, or finish damage, unless it results from defects in materials or workmanship and is reported within 1 week of delivery - damage or missing items to display, open-box, refurbished, or discounted products - refurbished products or products sold “As Is”, “Where Is”, “With all Faults”, or similar - products with original serial numbers removed, altered, or not readily determinable - higher utility costs or added utility expenses related to the product - replacement of light bulbs, filters, fuses, or other consumable parts - costs to remove and/or reinstall the product for repairs - noises that are normal for operation, or failures caused by not following the use and care or installation guides, or by using the unit in an unsuitable environment
Other Canada warranty notes LGECI says this limited warranty is the only liability it accepts, unless provincial law prevents that limitation. Other warranties or conditions, including implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, are disclaimed except where prohibited by provincial law. If law implies a warranty or condition, it is limited to the warranty period above.
LGECI is not responsible for incidental, consequential, special, direct, indirect, punitive, or exemplary damages, including loss of goodwill, lost profits, lost revenue, loss of use, or similar damages. LGECI’s total liability, if any, does not exceed the purchase price you paid for the product.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary by province. If any term conflicts with provincial law, that term is severable and the rest of the warranty remains in effect.
