Before Use: Basic Operation Overview

Important safety note Before operating the washer, read the Safety Instructions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury.

Before the first wash Before washing clothes for the first time: - Select the Normal cycle. - Add half the usual amount of detergent. - Start the washer without clothes.

This first run helps remove possible residue and water that may have been left in the drum during manufacturing.

Basic wash sequence

1) Sort laundry and load the washer For better washing results and less chance of damage: - Sort laundry by fabric type, soil level, color, and load size as needed. - Open the door and load the items into the washer.

If you are using single-use detergent packs, or gel or tablet detergents, place them in the drum before loading the laundry.

2) Add cleaning products - Add the proper amount of HE (High-Efficiency) detergent to the detergent dispenser. - If desired, add bleach or fabric softener to the appropriate areas of the dispenser drawer. - Do not place liquid or powdered detergent packs, or gel or tablet detergents, in the dispenser.

3) Turn on the washer Press the Power button to turn on the washer.

4) Select a cycle Choose a cycle by: - Turning the cycle selector knob, or - Pressing the cycle buttons repeatedly until the desired cycle is selected.

The washer shows the preset wash temperature, spin speed, soil level, and option settings for that cycle.

Notes about cycles: - The Normal cycle must be selected in order to change its default settings. - If you press Start/Pause without selecting a cycle, the washer immediately starts the Normal cycle with the default settings.

5) Adjust settings If desired, change the default settings using the cycle modifier and option buttons.

Keep in mind: - Not all modifiers and options are available on all cycles. - If a selection is not allowed, a different chime sounds and the LED does not light up.

6) Begin the cycle Press Start/Pause to begin.

What happens next: - The door locks. - The washer agitates briefly without water to measure the weight of the load.

If Start/Pause is not pressed within a certain time, the washer shuts off and all settings are lost.

What to expect during washing The washer moves laundry in a way that uses less water while still fully saturating the clothing. Because of this, it is normal if you cannot see water during the wash cycle.

End of cycle When the cycle is finished: - A melody sounds. - Remove the clothing right away to reduce wrinkling. - Check around the door seal when removing the load, because small items may be caught there.

If the door will not unlock If the temperature or water level inside the machine is too high, the door will not unlock when Start/Pause is pressed, and the Add Item function will not be available on applicable models.

To stop a cycle and drain the water completely: - Turn the power off. - Turn it on again. - Select Rinse+Spin.

How to sort laundry Sorting similar items helps improve wash results and reduce damage.

Sort by color - Wash dark clothes separately from light colors or whites. - Mixing dark and light items can cause dye transfer or discoloration.

Sort by soil level - Wash heavily soiled clothing together. - Washing lightly soiled clothing with heavily soiled clothing can reduce wash performance for the lightly soiled items.

Sort by fabric type - Do not mix delicate articles with heavy or sturdy fabrics. - Mixing them can reduce wash performance and may damage delicate items.

Sort by lint type Some fabrics attract lint and others give it off. - Do not mix lint collectors and lint producers in the same load. - Mixing them can cause pilling and linting.

Example: - Lint collector: knit sweater - Lint producer: terry cloth towels

Quick reminders - Use the correct amount of HE detergent. - Put detergent packs, gel, or tablet detergents in the drum, not in the dispenser. - If you start a cycle without choosing one, the washer uses Normal with default settings. - Remove laundry promptly at the end of the cycle.

Sorting and Loading Laundry

Follow these steps before starting a wash cycle so clothes clean well and the washer stays balanced.

1) Check the care label on each item Many garments have a fabric care label. Use the label instructions to help choose the right cycle and options.

The manual lists these label directions: - Hand wash - Machine wash, Normal cycle - Gentle/Delicate setting — slow agitation and/or reduced wash time - Perm Press/Wrinkle Resistant setting — includes a cool down or cold spray before a slower spin - Water temperature: Hot, Warm, or Cold/Cool - Do not wash - Do not wring - Bleach symbols: Do not bleach, Any bleach when needed, or Only non-chlorine bleach when needed

2) Prepare garments before loading For best results, sort and prepare items before they go into the drum.

General tips from the manual: - Check and empty pockets. Paper clips, coins, matches, and other items can damage clothing and the washer. - Close zippers and hooks, and tie drawstrings to prevent snagging or tangling. - Pretreat heavily stained areas for best results. - Brush off heavy soil, dust, and hair before washing. Excess dirt or sand can abrade other fabrics and reduce wash performance.

3) Load the drum correctly Load clothes loosely so they have room to circulate. - Do not press down on items while stacking them in the drum. - Do not overfill the drum. - The door must close easily. - The washer can be fully loaded, but the drum should not be tightly packed.

A few loading guidelines help prevent imbalance: - Combine large and small items in the drum. - Load large items first. - Large items should not be more than half of the total load. - The washer will not fill or operate with the door open.

4) Handle bulky, small, and delicate items carefully Bulky items - Wash thick, bulky items individually. - Heavy blankets, comforters, bedspreads, or pet beds can tangle or cause an unbalanced load if washed with other items.

Small items - Do not wash a single small item by itself. - Add enough similar items to prevent an out-of-balance load. - Wash small, light items in a mesh bag. - Small items can get caught in the impeller at the bottom of the drum. - Brassiere hooks can snag on other clothing or the drum.

5) Keep the door seal area clear Before closing the door: - Make sure all clothes and items are inside the tub. - Do not let anything hang over the rubber door seal. - Check for and remove any small items caught under the door gasket.

If clothing gets caught when the door is closed, it may be damaged and may damage the door seal.

6) Special caution for waterproof and water-resistant items Clothing or articles that are waterproof or water-resistant must be washed only in these cycles: - Waterproof - Bedding - Bulky/Large - Jumbo Wash

Examples given in the manual include water-resistant clothing, mattress covers, outdoor clothes, and plastic mats.

Do not wash these items in other cycles. The manual warns that doing so may cause abnormal vibration and may damage the washer, clothes, walls, floor, and surrounding objects. It may also cause personal injury.

7) About detergent use This washer is designed for HE (High-Efficiency) detergents only. - HE detergents produce fewer suds and dissolve more efficiently. - They help improve washing and rinsing performance and help keep the inside of the washer clean. - Using detergent that is not HE may cause oversudsing, unsatisfactory performance, error codes, cycle failure, and washer damage. - Detergents labeled HE-compatible may not provide optimal results. - Always measure detergent using the dispenser or measuring device provided by the detergent manufacturer. - For an average load, use less than half of the recommended amount.

Following these loading and sorting steps helps the washer clean effectively and reduces the chance of damage or imbalance.

Using Detergent, Bleach, and Other Laundry Products

This washer uses an automatic dispenser drawer for many laundry products, but some products must go directly into the drum. For best results, use the correct compartment and do not overfill.

Before you add anything - Always use HE (High-Efficiency) detergent with this washer. - Follow the detergent, bleach, and softener manufacturer’s recommendations. - Use less detergent for soft water, light soil, or smaller loads. - Be extra careful with 2X and 3X concentrated detergents. Even a small extra amount can cause problems. - Never use more than the maximum amount recommended by the manufacturer. - Do not place or store detergent, bleach, or liquid fabric softener on top of the washer. These products can damage the finish and controls.

Single-use detergent packs, gel, and tablet detergents - Place liquid or powdered detergent packs, gel detergents, or tablet detergents directly in the drum before adding laundry. - Do not put these products in the dispenser drawer. - Do not use more than one single-use detergent pack in the washer. - If detergent residue remains on fabrics, reduce the detergent amount or select Extra Rinse.

Using the dispenser drawer 1. Open the dispenser drawer. 2. Add products to the correct compartment. 3. Gently close the drawer before starting the cycle.

Important cautions: - Slamming the drawer may cause detergent to overflow into another compartment or be dispensed into the drum too early. - Be careful not to catch your hand in the drawer while closing. - A small amount of water left in the dispenser compartments at the end of the cycle is normal.

Pre-wash detergent compartment Use this compartment only when using the Pre-wash option. - Add liquid or powdered detergent here. - Use half the amount recommended for the main wash cycle. - Example: if the main wash needs one measure, add 1/2 measure for pre-wash. - If you use pre-wash, liquid detergent for the main wash must be loaded into the liquid detergent cup accessory in the main wash dispenser, where applicable, so it is not dispensed with the pre-wash detergent.

Main wash detergent compartment This compartment holds detergent for the main wash cycle. - You may use powdered or liquid detergent here. - The detergent is added at the beginning of the cycle. - Do not exceed the maximum fill line. - Too much detergent can cause buildup in clothing and in the washer. - Liquid or powdered color-safe bleach may be added to the main wash compartment with detergent of the same type. - Do not mix liquids and powders.

If your dispenser includes a liquid detergent cup and insert: - Leave them in place when using liquid detergent. - Remove them when using powdered detergent. Powdered detergent will not dispense properly if the cup and insert are left in place. - The liquid detergent cup has guidelines showing how much liquid detergent to add.

Bleach use Liquid chlorine bleach compartment - This compartment is for liquid chlorine bleach only. - The bleach is dispensed automatically at the proper time during the wash cycle. - The dispenser is activated twice to help ensure the bleach is fully dispensed. - Any liquid left in the dispenser at the end of the cycle is water, not bleach.

Bleach safety and limits: - Follow the bleach manufacturer’s recommendations. - Never add more than one cup. - Do not exceed the maximum fill line. - Too much bleach may be dispensed immediately and can damage fabrics. - Never pour undiluted liquid chlorine bleach directly onto the load or into the drum. - Do not use color-safe bleach or oxygen bleach in the same cycle with liquid chlorine bleach. - Do not mix chlorine bleach with ammonia or acids such as vinegar or rust/scale remover; this can produce a lethal gas. - Do not add powdered bleach to the liquid bleach compartment. - Powdered or liquid color-safe bleach will not dispense properly in this compartment.

Main wash compartment and bleach - Liquid or powdered color-safe bleach may be added to the main wash compartment with detergent of the same type. - Do not mix liquids and powders.

Fabric softener compartment This compartment holds fabric softener for automatic dispensing during the final rinse cycle. - You may use powdered or liquid fabric softener. - Do not exceed the maximum fill line. - Too much fabric softener may stain clothes or cause buildup on fabrics or in the washer. - Dilute concentrated fabric softeners with warm water. - Never pour fabric softener directly onto the load or into the drum. - If you use a detergent that does not dissolve easily or is very thick, it may leave residue and clog the dispenser.

Quick placement guide - Pre-wash compartment: detergent for Pre-wash only. - Main wash compartment: detergent for the main wash; may also accept color-safe bleach of the same type. - Fabric softener compartment: fabric softener only. - Liquid chlorine bleach compartment: liquid chlorine bleach only. - Drum: single-use detergent packs, gel detergents, and tablet detergents.

Practical reminders - Use less detergent for smaller or lightly soiled loads. - Measure carefully, especially with concentrated detergents. - Keep products within their fill lines. - Close the dispenser drawer gently. - If detergent residue remains on fabrics, reduce detergent or use Extra Rinse.

FAQ Can I put detergent packs in the dispenser drawer? No. Place liquid or powdered detergent packs, gel detergents, and tablet detergents directly in the drum before loading laundry.

Can I use powdered detergent in the main wash compartment? Yes. The main wash compartment accepts either powdered or liquid detergent.

How much detergent should I use for Pre-wash? Use half the amount recommended for the main wash cycle.

Can I use liquid chlorine bleach with color-safe bleach in the same cycle? No. Do not use color-safe bleach or oxygen bleach in the same cycle with liquid chlorine bleach.

What does leftover liquid in the bleach dispenser mean at the end of a cycle? It is water, not bleach.

What should I do if detergent residue is left on fabrics? Reduce the detergent amount or select the Extra Rinse option.

Control Panel and Display Overview

This section explains the main controls on the washer and what the display lights mean.

Control panel buttons and knob

Power On/Off button - Press this button to turn the washer on or off. - If you press it during a cycle, the cycle is canceled and any load settings are lost. - The door will unlock after a brief pause. - Note: If any water is still in the drum after the washer shuts off, it will drain after a delay. - You can restart the washer at any time before draining begins. Once draining starts, all functions are suspended until the water has been completely drained and the washer shuts off.

Cycle Selector knob - Turn this knob to choose the cycle you want. - After you select a cycle, the standard preset settings appear in the display. - You can change those settings with the Cycle Modifier buttons any time before starting the cycle.

Start/Pause button - Press this button to start the selected cycle. - If the washer is already running, press it to pause the cycle without losing the current settings. - Note: If you do not press Start/Pause after selecting a cycle, the washer will automatically turn off after a delay and all cycle settings will be lost. - Any water remaining in the drum will be drained.

Cycle Modifier buttons - Use these buttons to change the wash temperature, spin speed, and soil level for the selected cycle. - The current settings are shown in the display. - Press the button for an option to move through other settings.

Option and Extra Function buttons - Use these buttons to choose additional cycle options. - Some buttons also activate special functions when you press and hold them for 3 seconds.

Time and Status Display

Cycle Status Indicators - These LEDs blink when you select a cycle to show which stages will run. - When a cycle is running, the LED for the active stage blinks. - The LEDs for the remaining stages stay steady. - When a stage is complete, its LED turns off. - If a cycle is paused, the active stage LED stops blinking.

Estimated Time Remaining - When you select a cycle, the default time for that cycle appears. - This time changes as you choose modifiers or options. - If the display shows --- , the time will appear after load sensing detects the load size. - The time shown is only an estimate based on normal operating conditions. - Several outside factors can affect the actual time, including load size, room temperature, and incoming water temperature. - Note: After you press Start/Pause, the washer measures the load size. The estimated time may change once load sensing is complete. - If Delay Wash is set, the remaining delay time counts down until the cycle begins.

AI DD Indicator - AI DD provides the appropriate drum rotation actions after load sensing is complete. - This indicator lights when: - the Normal cycle is selected and operated, except when Heavy soil level is selected - the Bright Whites™ and Rinse+Spin cycles are selected and operated with any cycle options

Door Lock Indicator - This indicator lights when the cycle starts and the door is locked. - It stays on until the cycle is paused, stopped, or finished.

Wi-Fi Indicator - This indicator is lit when the washer is connected to a home Wi-Fi network.

Remote Start Indicator - This indicator lights when the Remote Start feature is activated.

Wash Cycles Guide

The washer has different cycles designed for specific types of laundry. For best washing performance and fabric care, choose the cycle that matches the load contents. LG also recommends following the care labels on your garments. For help reading fabric care symbols, see the Sorting Laundry section.

To choose a cycle: - Turn the knob or press the button to select the desired cycle. - When a cycle is selected, the light for that cycle turns on.

A few general notes: - If a load weight is mentioned, the manual says to treat 1 lb (0.45 kg) as about 1 thick dry bath towel. - The temperature indicator lights up when Tap Cold, Cold, Warm, Hot, or Extra Hot is selected. - The spin indicator lights up when No Spin, Low, Medium, High, or Extra High is selected. - Pressing Start/Pause without choosing a cycle starts the Normal cycle right away using its default settings.

Cycle Guide

Normal Use for normal items such as cotton, linen, shirts, jeans, or mixed loads, except delicate fabrics like wool or silk. - Default wash temp: Warm - Default spin speed: High - Default soil level: Normal

Heavy Duty Use for heavily soiled laundry such as cotton fabrics, with more powerful wash motions. - Default wash temp: Warm - Default spin speed: Extra High - Default soil level: Heavy - When washing large loads, brief periods of 2 minutes or more without agitation are normal. These soak periods are part of the cycle design.

Bedding Use for blankets or bulky items that have difficulty absorbing water, such as pillows, blankets, comforters, sheets, or pet bedding. - Default wash temp: Warm - Available wash temps: Hot, Warm, Cold, Tap Cold - Default spin speed: Medium - Available spin speeds: Medium, Low, No Spin - Default soil level: Normal

Important bedding cautions: - Do not use this cycle for a mixed load of bedding and non-bedding items. - Do not mix large or bulky items with smaller clothing items. - Do not wash excessively large items. - If large or bulky items do not fit easily into the tub, there may not be enough room for them to move during washing.

Sanitary Use this high-temperature cycle to wash clothes. - Default wash temp: Extra Hot - Available wash temp: Extra Hot - Default spin speed: High - Default soil level: Normal

AllergieneTM Use this powerful high-temperature cycle to reduce certain allergens. - The cycle automatically includes steam and cannot have steam deselected. - It can significantly reduce allergens in bedding and clothing. - It helps reduce dust mite populations and reduce allergens. - Because it uses higher energy and temperatures, it is not recommended for wool, silk, leather, or any other delicate or temperature-sensitive items. - Default spin speed: High

Tub Clean This is a special cycle designed to clean the inside of the washer.

Bright WhitesTM Use this cycle for white items only. - Load limit: less than 15 lb (6.8 kg) - Default wash temp: Hot - Available wash temps: Hot, Warm, Cold, Tap Cold - Default spin speed: High - Default soil level: Normal

Delicates Use for dress shirts/blouses, nylons, lingerie, or sheer and lacy clothes that can be easily damaged. - Load limit: less than 8 lb (3.63 kg) - Default wash temp: Cold - Available wash temps: Warm, Cold, Tap Cold - Default spin speed: Medium - Available spin speeds: Medium, Low, No Spin - Default soil level: Normal

Perm. Press Use this cycle to minimize wrinkles when washing tablecloths or wrinkle-free clothes. - Default wash temp: Warm - Available wash temps: Hot, Warm, Cold, Tap Cold - Default spin speed: Medium - Available spin speeds: High, Medium, Low, No Spin - Default soil level: Normal

Speed Wash Use this cycle to quickly wash lightly soiled clothing and small loads. - For best wash and rinse efficiency, wash small loads of 2–3 lightly soiled garments. - Load limit: less than 3 lb (1.36 kg) - Use very little detergent. - To add an extra rinse, use the Extra Rinse option. - Default wash temp: Hot - Available wash temps: Hot, Warm, Cold, Tap Cold - Default spin speed: Extra High - Default soil level: Light

Downloaded (Small Load) You can use a smartphone to download a specialized cycle to this cycle position. - The default cycle is Small Load, used for normally soiled loads with a few items. - This cycle is also available for download. - Refer to the LG ThinQ app to see the cycles available for download. - Default wash temp: Warm - Available wash temps: Hot, Warm, Cold, Tap Cold - Default spin speed: High - Default soil level: Normal

Available options and cycle notes - Delay Wash, Extra Rinse, and Add Item can be selected for every cycle in this table. - Steam and Cold Wash cannot be selected at the same time. - If TurboWashTM is on, you cannot select No Spin as your spin setting.

Quick cycle-selection tips - Choose Normal for everyday mixed loads. - Choose Heavy Duty for heavily soiled fabrics. - Choose Bedding only for bulky bedding items, not mixed laundry. - Choose Delicates for fragile garments and use the lower load limit. - Choose Speed Wash for a very small, lightly soiled load. - Use Tub Clean only for cleaning the washer tub, not for laundry.

Cycle Modifiers and Basic Options

Your washer lets you customize many cycles after you choose the cycle. Each cycle starts with default settings, but you can change some settings using the modifier buttons.

Before you change settings - Repeatedly press the button for the setting you want until the correct indicator light turns on. - The LED next to the selected setting lights up. - The washer automatically adjusts the water level for the load size and fabric type for better results and efficiency. - This is a high-efficiency washer, so the water level may look lower than expected. That is normal, and washing and rinsing performance is not reduced. - Not every temperature, spin speed, soil level, or option is available on every cycle. - If a setting is not allowed for the selected cycle, the washer sounds twice and the LED does not light. - Always follow the fabric care labels on the garment.

Temperature Use Temp. to choose the wash and rinse temperature combination for the cycle. - Press Temp. repeatedly until you reach the setting you want. - All rinses use unheated cold water. - Cold rinses use less energy. The exact cold rinse temperature depends on the temperature of the water coming from the faucet. - The washer has a heating element that boosts the hot water temperature for Extra Hot settings.

Spin Use Spin to choose how fast the drum spins at the end of the cycle. - Press Spin repeatedly until the desired speed is selected. - Higher spin speeds remove more water and can reduce drying time. - Some fabrics, such as delicates, need a slower spin speed.

Soil Use Soil to change how long and how intensely the washer works. - Press Soil repeatedly until the desired soil level is selected. - Heavy soil may increase cycle time. - Light soil may decrease cycle time.

Options and extra functions Select an option after choosing the cycle and any basic settings. Not every option works with every cycle.

Steam Steam adds cleaning performance similar to a very hot wash. - Steam may not be visible during the cycle. That is normal. - Too much steam could damage clothing. - Do not use Steam with delicate fabrics such as wool and silk, or with fabrics that discolor easily. - Do not touch the door during steam cycles. The door surface can become very hot and can cause severe burns. - Allow the door lock to release before opening the door. - Do not attempt to override the door lock or reach into the washer during a steam cycle.

Fresh Care Use Fresh Care if you will not be able to unload the clothes right after the cycle ends. - Each press adds 1 hour of delay time, up to 19 hours. - After setting the desired delay time, press Start/Pause to begin the delay. - If you do not press Start/Pause to begin the delay, the washer turns off after a certain time and all cycle settings are lost. - The drum tumbles periodically for up to 19 hours to help prevent wrinkles.

Wi‑Fi / LG ThinQ connection When the washer is connected to a home Wi‑Fi network, the f icon on the control panel is lit. - To connect the washer to the LG ThinQ application, press and hold Delay Wash for 3 seconds.

Add Item Use Add Item to add garments or remove foreign objects after a cycle has started. - Press Add Item while the wash cycle is running. - The cycle pauses and the door unlocks. - If the water level and temperature are safe, the door lock light turns off and the door unlocks after the wash movement stops. - If the water level is too high, the door will not unlock and this function cannot be used. - If the drum temperature is higher than 113 °F (45 °C), a short warning chime sounds and this function is not allowed for safety. - This function is disabled during the Tub Clean cycle. - Open the door carefully, because wet laundry may drip or fall out. - If you add garments after a cycle has started, wash time may be extended depending on when they are added.

Pre-wash Pre-wash adds about 15 to 17 minutes before the main wash for heavily soiled or stained clothing. - If you put detergent directly into the drum and then choose Pre-wash, the detergent may be washed away and washing performance may be reduced.

Remote Start Remote Start lets you control the washer from a smartphone. - See the Smart Functions section for more information.

Delay Wash Delay Wash starts the cycle later. - Select the cycle and other settings first, then press Delay Wash.

TurboWashTM TurboWashTM reduces cycle time while still providing similar wash performance to the same cycle without TurboWashTM.

Cold Wash Cold Wash saves energy by using cooler water. - It increases wash and rinse times to help maintain wash performance. - Wash time may increase by several minutes. - For best results, use this option only with small loads of less than 8 lb.

Extra Rinse Extra Rinse adds an additional rinse to the cycle. - Use it to help remove detergent or bleach residue from fabrics.

Rinse+Spin Use Rinse+Spin to rinse and spin a load without running a regular wash cycle. - This can help keep fresh stains from setting in fabrics. - Press Power to turn on the washer. - Do not select a cycle. - Press Rinse+Spin. - You can change the spin speed with the Spin button. - Press Start/Pause.

Control Lock Control Lock disables the controls to help keep children from changing cycles or operating the washer. - It does not lock the door. - When it is on, all buttons except Power are locked. - During washing, CL and the remaining time alternate on the display. - Turning off the power does not reset Control Lock; you must deactivate it before using other options. - To turn it on or off, turn on the power and press and hold Rinse+Spin for 3 seconds. - When deactivated, a chime sounds and the remaining cycle time reappears.

Signal Signal turns the end-of-cycle melody and button tones on or off. - Press Signal to turn this function on or off.

Spin Only Spin Only spins clothes and drains water from the tub. - Use it if a wash cycle was interrupted by a power failure or if you want to spin-dry hand-washed items. - Press Power to turn on the washer. - Do not select a cycle. - Press and hold Spin for 3 seconds. - You can change the spin speed by pressing Spin. - Press Start/Pause to begin.

Rinse Only Use Rinse Only to rinse clothes without spinning. - Press Power to turn on the washer. - Do not add detergent. - Press Rinse+Spin. - Press Spin until No Spin is selected. - Press Start/Pause.

Quick reminders - Some settings are blocked on certain cycles, and the washer tells you by sounding twice and leaving the LED off. - Steam, Fresh Care, Add Item, and other options have limits and safety rules, so choose them only when the cycle supports them. - For best results, match your settings to the fabric care label.
