Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my dryer beep when I press a button and then nothing happens? If the dryer beeps but does not start, the Control Lock feature is turned on. To turn Control Lock off, turn the dryer on and then press and hold the button that has Control Lock on or under it for 3 seconds.

Why does my dryer take so long to dry clothes? Drying time depends on airflow. Proper airflow is critical for efficient dryer operation. If the lint filter is full of lint or clogged with fabric softener sheet residue, airflow can be reduced and the time needed to dry clothes can increase a lot. The manual also says to see the troubleshooting charts for more tips.

Why does my dryer start by itself every few minutes? This is normal behavior when Wrinkle Care is on. After the cycle ends, the dryer runs briefly every few minutes for up to 3 hours. The feature is meant to help prevent wrinkles from setting in if you do not unload the dryer right away.

Why does my dryer show 3 minutes when I select the Steam FreshTM cycle? When Steam FreshTM is selected, the display shows the recommended number of garments for the cycle, not the estimated cycle time, until you start the cycle. Use the More Time or Less Time buttons to change the load size setting to the number of garments you want. For a large load or a single bulky item, use the 6IQ (big) setting.

Need more help? LG says additional help is available through support videos and tutorials on the LG website. The manual directs you to the LG support site, then to Video Tutorials, and suggests searching for Dryer on that page.

Error messages and diagnostic codes

Error messages and diagnostic codes

This dryer has an automatic error-monitoring system that helps detect problems early. If the dryer does not work properly, check the messages below before calling for service.

Temperature sensor failure Codes: tE1 through tE7

  • Meaning: Temperature sensor failure.
  • What to do: Turn off the appliance and call for service.

Power cord connection problem Code: Ps

  • Meaning: The power cord is connected incorrectly.
  • What to do: Check the connection of the power cord to the terminal block.

Exhaust system problem Codes: d8O, dGO, dGs

These codes mean the exhaust system is restricted.

Possible causes listed in the manual: - The exhaust system is too long or has too many turns/restrictions. - The house exhaust system is blocked.

What to do: - Do not use the appliance until the exhaust system has been cleaned and/or repaired. - Using the appliance with severely restricted exhaust is dangerous and could result in a fire or other property damage. - Check the outside dryer vent while the appliance is operating to make sure there is strong airflow. - If the exhaust system is extremely long, have it repaired or rerouted. - Keep the area around the dryer clean and free of clutter. - Check the vent hood for damage or lint clogging. - Make sure the area around the vent hood is clear.

Steam setting display Display: bIGf

  • Meaning: The More Time button was pressed.
  • This display means the steam option has been set for a “big” item such as a comforter.
  • What to do: Press the Less Time button to reduce the indicated load size.

Flow SenseTM indicator The Flow SenseTM indicator helps show exhaust restriction during drying.

If the indicator shows four bars during the drying cycle Possible cause: - The exhaust system is too long or has too many turns/restrictions.

What to do: - Install a shorter or straighter duct run. See the Installation instructions for details.

Possible cause: - Partial blockage of the ductwork due to lint buildup or another foreign object.

What to do: - Check and clean the ductwork immediately. - The appliance can still be used in this condition, but drying times will be longer and energy consumption will increase.

If the Flow SenseTM indicator stays on after the vent restriction is cleared - The appliance has detected a restriction in the external dryer venting. - If exhaust restrictions are sensed, the indicator remains on for 2 hours after the end of the cycle. - Opening the door or pressing the Power button turns off the display. - After the restriction is cleared, the Flow SenseTM system needs multiple consecutive cycles to confirm improved performance before the indicator resets. - If the Flow SenseTM indicator stays on for more than five cycles after the restriction has been cleared, call for service.

If the appliance will not turn on Possible cause: - The power cord is not properly plugged in.

What to do: - Make sure the power plug is securely plugged into a grounded outlet that matches the appliance's rating plate.

Troubleshooting by symptom: power and heating

Troubleshooting by symptom: power and heating

Use these checks when the dryer will not start, will not heat, or is drying much more slowly than expected. Only the causes and fixes listed here are supported by the manual.

The appliance will not turn on

Possible cause: - House fuse is blown, circuit breaker has tripped, or a power outage has occurred.

What to do: - Reset the circuit breaker or replace the fuse. - Do not increase fuse capacity. - If the problem is a circuit overload, have it corrected by a qualified electrician.

The appliance does not heat

Possible causes: - House fuse is blown, circuit breaker has tripped, or a power outage has occurred. - Gas supply or service is turned off. - Energy Saver option is selected.

What to do: - Reset the circuit breaker or replace the fuse. Do not increase fuse capacity. - If the problem is a circuit overload, have it corrected by a qualified electrician. - Confirm that the hose gas shutoff and the shutoff valves of the dryer are both fully open. - Even if gas is not supplied to the appliance, it will run and no error codes will display. Verify that other gas appliances in the home are working normally. - If using the Normal cycle, deselect the Energy Saver option that is selected by default. - This option reduces energy use by adding an air dry section to the beginning of the cycle. - It is normal to feel no heat at the beginning of the cycle while in Energy Saver mode.

Clothes take too long to dry

Possible causes and actions:

Exhaust ducts are blocked, dirty, or the duct run is too long - Confirm that the exhaust duct is properly configured and free of debris, lint, and obstructions. - Make sure that the outside wall damper can open properly and is not blocked, jammed, or damaged.

Load is not properly sorted - Separate heavy items from lightweight items. - Larger and heavier items take longer to dry. - Light items in a load with heavy items can fool the sensor because the light items dry faster.

Large and heavy fabrics are loaded - Heavy fabrics take longer to dry because they tend to retain more moisture. - To help reduce and maintain more consistent drying times for large and heavy fabrics, separate these items into smaller loads of a consistent size.

Dryer controls are not set properly - Use the appropriate control settings for the type of load you are drying. - Some loads may require an adjustment of the dry level setting for proper drying.

Lint filter needs to be cleaned - Remove the lint from the filter before every load. - With the lint removed, hold the filter up to a light to see if it is dirty or clogged. - With some loads that produce high amounts of lint, such as new bath towels, it may be necessary to pause the cycle and clean the filter during the cycle.

House fuse is blown, circuit breaker has tripped, or power outage has occurred - Reset the circuit breaker or replace the fuse. - Do not increase fuse capacity. - If the problem is a circuit overload, have it corrected by a qualified electrician.

The appliance is overloaded - Divide extra large loads into smaller loads for better drying performance and efficiency.

The appliance is underloaded - If you are drying a very small load, add a few extra items to ensure proper tumble action. - If the load is small and you are using SENSOR DRY cycles, the electronic control cannot properly sense the dryness of the load and may shut off too soon. - Use MANUAL DRY cycles or add some extra wet clothes to the load.

Energy Saver option is selected - If using Normal cycle, deselect the Energy Saver option that is selected by default. - This option reduces energy use by adding an air dry section to the beginning of the cycle. - It is normal to feel no heat at the beginning of the cycle while in Energy Saver mode.

Troubleshooting by symptom: drying results and wrinkles

Troubleshooting by symptom: drying results and wrinkles

Use the guidance below when clothes are drying unevenly, coming out wrinkled, feeling staticky, or still have damp spots after a cycle. These tips focus on load size, fabric type, dryness settings, and how long items stay in the dryer.

Drying time is not consistent Drying time can vary from load to load. This is normal when any of the following changes: - load size - fabric type - how wet the clothes are - the condition of the lint filter

An unbalanced load in the washer can also cause poor spinning. If clothes come into the dryer wetter than usual, they may take longer to dry.

Clothes are wrinkled Wrinkling can happen when a load is overdried. - Try a shorter drying time. - Or use a lower dry level setting. - Remove items while they still retain a slight amount of moisture.

Wrinkles can also form if clothes stay in the dryer after the cycle ends. - Use the Wrinkle Care option. It tumbles clothes briefly every few minutes for up to 3 hours to help prevent wrinkling.

Greasy or dirty spots on clothes If clothes have greasy or dirty spots after drying: - Check that fabric softener is being used correctly, and follow the instructions that come with it. - Dry only clean items. Soil from dirty clothes can transfer to clean clothes in the same load or later loads. - Make sure clothes were properly cleaned or rinsed before drying. - Some difficult soils may need pre-treatment before washing.

Clothes are shrinking To avoid shrinking: - Follow the garment care instructions. - Use a low heat or no heat setting when appropriate.

Some fabrics naturally shrink when washed. Others may wash okay but shrink in the dryer.

Lint on clothes If lint is left on clothes, the lint filter may not be cleaned properly. - Remove lint from the filter before every load. - After removing the lint, hold the filter up to a light to see whether it is dirty or clogged. - If it looks dirty, follow the cleaning instructions in the maintenance section. - For loads that produce a lot of lint, it may be necessary to clean the filter during the cycle.

Sorting also matters: - Some fabrics produce lint, such as a fuzzy white cotton towel. - Other fabrics trap lint, such as black linen pants. - Dry lint producers separately from lint trappers.

Excess static in clothes Static can increase when clothes are overdried. - Use a fabric softener to reduce static electricity, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. - Adjust settings and use a shorter drying time, or use Sensor Dry cycles. - Divide extra large loads into smaller loads. - Check pockets before washing and drying to remove tissue, paper, and similar items.

If static is still a problem, the manual also notes these points: - Use a fabric softener or the Reduce Static option, if available. - Synthetic fabrics, permanent press, and synthetic blends are naturally more prone to static buildup. - For Manual Dry cycles, try a lower dry level setting and/or shorter time settings.

Clothes have damp spots after a Sensor Dry cycle If some items are still damp after Sensor Dry: - The load may be too large or too small for the sensor to read dryness correctly. - If the load is very small, use a Time Dry cycle. - Large items like blankets or comforters can wrap into a tight ball. The outside may dry while the inside stays damp. - When drying a single bulky item, pause the cycle once or twice and rearrange the item to unwrap it and expose damp areas. - To finish a few damp items from a very large load, or to dry damp spots on a large item after a sensor cycle, empty the lint trap and use a Time Dry cycle.

Steam cycle notes related to wrinkles and moisture For Steam functions, a few conditions are normal: - Water dripping from the nozzle when a Steam Cycle starts is normal steam condensation and should stop after a short time. - Water dripping from the door during a Steam Cycle is normal. - Steam vapor may be difficult to see during operation.

For Steam Fresh: - Small loads of 1 to 5 items work best. - Load fewer garments and load similar types of garments. - The cycle is meant to remove wrinkles; use an iron to restore creases and pleats.

For Reduce Static: - Select the load weight manually before starting the cycle. - If steam does not generate and no error code is shown, the manual says there is a water level error. Unplug the dryer and call for service.

Quick reminders - Clean the lint filter before every load. - Use Sensor Dry, Time Dry, or Manual Dry settings as needed for the load. - Keep load size and fabric types in mind when choosing a cycle. - When in doubt, stop overdrying; slightly damp clothes are less likely to wrinkle or build static.

Troubleshooting by symptom: steam, odor, and Wi-Fi

Troubleshooting: Steam, Odor, and Wi‑Fi

Use this section when you notice steam behavior that seems unusual, odors in clothing or inside the appliance, or problems connecting to Wi‑Fi.

Steam cycle questions

Problem: Drum does not turn during Steam Cycle

This is normal. - The drum is turned off so the steam vapor stays in the drum. - The drum normally turns for about 2 seconds once a minute.

Problem: Cannot see steam vapor at the beginning of cycle

This is normal. - Steam is released at different stages of the cycle for each option.

Problem: Odors remain in clothing after Steam Fresh™

Steam Fresh™ may not remove strong odors completely. - Fabrics with strong odors should be washed in a normal cycle.

Odor concerns

Problem: The appliance has an unpleasant odor

If the appliance is new, the odor may be caused by the rubber material inside the appliance. - This odor is normal when the appliance is new. - It should disappear after you run several cycles.

If you smell an odor during use: - Do not exceed the detergent amount recommended by the manufacturer when washing clothes. Too much detergent can build up on clothing and cause odors. - Do not leave clothes in the washer or dryer after the cycle ends. Unload clothing promptly when the cycle ends. - Keep lint filters clean. Dirty or clogged lint filters can cause odors. - After cleaning the lint filter, let it dry completely before using it again.

Wi‑Fi connection problems

Problem: Trouble connecting the appliance and smartphone to the Wi‑Fi network

Check these possible causes and fixes: - The Wi‑Fi password may have been entered incorrectly. Delete your home Wi‑Fi network and start the connection process again. - Mobile data on your smartphone may be turned on. Turn off mobile data before connecting the appliance. - The wireless network name (SSID) may be set incorrectly. The SSID should use only English letters and numbers. Do not use special characters. - The router frequency may not be 2.4 GHz. Only a 2.4 GHz router frequency is supported. Set the router to 2.4 GHz and connect again. If needed, check the router frequency with your Internet service provider or the router manufacturer. - The appliance and router may be too far apart. A weak signal can prevent a correct connection. Move the router closer to the appliance or install a Wi‑Fi repeater.

If the app asks for a product password during Wi‑Fi setup

On some phones, the app may ask for a password to connect to the product. - Find the network name that starts with “LG” under Settings > Networks. - Note the last part of the network name.

Use the correct password format based on the network name: - If the network name looks like LGE_Appliance_XX-XX-XX, enter lge12345. - If the network name looks like LGE_Appliance_XXXX, enter the last 4 characters twice as the password. - Example: if the network name is LGE_Appliance_8b92, enter 8b928b92. - This password is case sensitive. - The last 4 characters are unique to your appliance.
